This month we are continuing to use the Rice Box- Digging for Our Name. I changed it up a bit to fit with our theme. I took the rice out and added cotton balls. We are pretending it is snow. Jake even put on a pair of gloves when he started digging because, "It's so cold!"
I put the wooden letters in the pan and gave him the shovel. He dug around in the "snow" until he found a letter. I am continuing to use the piece of paper with his name on it as a guide to place the letters. I will eventually be taking this away so he can put the wooden letters in order himself.
He scooped out a letter, said the letter and then put it in its place. We sing a little song while practicing his name as well:
J- clap, clap, clap, clap, clap
A-clap, clap, clap, clap, clap
C-clap, clap, clap, clap, clap
O-clap, clap, clap, clap, clap
B-clap, clap, clap, clap, clap
JACOB!
I love this idea!
